Linville Gorge in western North Carolina is a steep, rugged canyon carved by the Linville River and often called “The Grand Canyon of North Carolina.” It sits within the Pisgah National Forest and spans roughly 11,786 acres of protected wilderness. The gorge drops about 1,400–2,000 feet from rim to river, creating dramatic cliffs, dense old‑growth forests, and challenging trails. Popular spots include Linville Falls, Table Rock, Hawksbill Mountain, and Wiseman’s View, all offering sweeping views of one of the most wild, untouched landscapes in the Eastern U.S.
